What happens after I donated?

How do I know you will put my donation to good use?

The project has had a very good track record for over a year! I've published 16 major updates in that time, the repository collected 1k GitHub stars, the app was downloaded over 75k times and I'm very eager to work on the next features. The only thing it depends on is having a stable income so I can put my whole focus on the project's development. You will very quickly notice this in the next months, once the goal is reached!

What if the funding goal is not reached?

I will keep working on Music Presence in my free-time, but I won't be able to put as much time into developing it anymore. I will refund any donation on request, but I urge you to only donate, if you can afford it and if you really want to support the project! Note that it is not possible for me to offer refunds for donations made via GitHub Sponsors. Refunds are handled entirely on the platform where you made your donation.

I can only donate a small amount. Does that help?

Yes! If every user of Music Presence would donate just 1€ per month, we would reach the goal in no time. So even if you decide to donate a small monthly amount, if many people do it, then the impact is very meaningful!

Why do only monthly donations count?

I want to work on Music Presence for the foreseeable future. I appreciate every one-time donation, but to make the decision to pursue working on Music Presence full-time, I need to feel safe about having a stable monthly income. Please only donate, if you are certain you can sustain supporting me on a monthly basis!

What does e.g. "5% cut" mean?

Most donation platforms like Patreon and co. take a small processing fee which is deducted from your donation. This means that I effectively receive less than what you donated, the higher the cut is. If you want to help me out the most, choose an option with a low processing fee!

Where can I contact you?

You can send me an e-mail or join my Discord server and we can chat! I'd love to talk to you one-on-one, especially if you decided to support me financially!

Why is my donation not showing up?

It can take up to 30 minutes for your donation to appear on the site. This is due to caching.

Why does the donation progress not accurately reflect the real number of sponsors?

When you donate less than 5€ per month, the counter may not visibly increase, but your donation is still recognized! Since I intend to work on the project full-time, the target is not actually a fixed number of sponsors that donate any amount, but a minimum income that can sustain a living for me.

I have decided to show the progress as a fixed number of sponsors because it communicates much better that the donation goal is a community effort. Showing a target amount of money instead would be much more discouraging to people who only can/want to donate a small amount, like e.g. 1€ or 2€, because it gives the wrongful impression that a small donation like that has no impact. In reality, if every user of Music Presence would donate just 1€ per month, we would reach the goal very quickly!

If you want to donate, but you don't want your name to appear here, you should donate with an alias or a separate account. On Patreon, you can set your profile to private and your name will be abbreviated to a single letter. If you already donated and you still want to be removed, please contact me.
